Norton 7500H Institutional Surface Door Closer — Hold-Open Arm, Tri-Pack Sizes 1–6, Finish 689
The Norton 7500H is a heavy-duty, institutional-grade surface-mounted door closer from Norton (Norton-Rixson / ASSA ABLOY), engineered for the most demanding commercial, institutional, and high-traffic applications. This listing covers the hold-open arm tri-pack (spring sizes 1 through 6) in finish 689 (aluminum). Hand is specified at the factory — confirm handing when ordering. The 7500H is the hold-open variant of the 7500 Series Institutional Door Closer; it is not rated for fire-rated door assemblies requiring a self-closing device.
Key Features & Benefits
- ANSI/BHMA A156.4 Grade 1 Certified: Meets the highest published performance standard for commercial door closers, confirming durability for institutional occupancies including schools, hospitals, government buildings, and correctional facilities.
- Cast Aluminum Rack-and-Pinion Body: Precision-machined housing with a 1-1/2 in (38 mm) piston and 5/8 in pinion journals delivers consistent, reliable closing force across the full service life of the unit.
- Tri-Pack Spring Sizes 1–6: A single closer body covers door weights up to 250 lb and virtually any door width, eliminating the need to stock multiple closer models on a project.
- Four Independent Adjustment Valves: Separate field-adjustable valves for latch speed, sweep speed, backcheck intensity, and backcheck position allow precise tuning without special tools.
- NorGlide Multi-Viscosity Fluid: Factory-filled hydraulic fluid rated to -40 °F maintains consistent closing performance across extreme temperature ranges — ideal for vestibule and cold-climate installations.
- ADA / ANSI A117.1 Designed to Comply: Configured to meet low opening-force requirements; note that extremely low spring settings may prevent reliable latching — coordinate with door hardware schedule.
- 180° Swing Capability: Supports full 180-degree door swing on standard arm applications where conditions and wall clearances permit; an auxiliary wall, floor, or overhead stop is recommended.
- Hold-Open Arm: Integrated hold-open feature keeps the door open at a specified angle — suited for high-traffic corridors, loading areas, and non-fire-rated openings requiring hands-free convenience.
- 30-Year Limited Warranty: Backed by a 30-year limited warranty on the closer mechanism and a life-of-the-building warranty on the aluminum housing.
- Installation Ready: Ships with self-drilling screws and a full-size template as catalog standard, reducing installation time on the jobsite.
Applications
The Norton 7500H is specified for interior non-fire-rated openings in schools, universities, healthcare facilities, government buildings, office complexes, and other high-cycle institutional environments. The hold-open arm is appropriate where door codes do not require self-closing. Important: This closer must not be installed on the exterior side of a door in an exterior wall — doing so voids the warranty. Consult your door hardware schedule and authority having jurisdiction (AHJ) before specifying for exterior openings.

Closer Adjustments
Use the hex wrench supplied with the closer. Never force valves out of the closer. Never completely close the backcheck valve. The door must be open to adjust spring power. Do not use a power drill -- that voids the warranty. Do not remove the valves; removal causes a fluid leak.
