How Do You Cut an Electric Strike Into a Metal Frame? HES 1006 Frame Prep

This 43-second short shows how a 16-gauge hollow metal frame is prepped for an HES 1006 electric strike.

What the video shows

  • Clamp a cutting guide to the frame.
  • Cut the opening with a Dremel.
  • Clean up the cut with an air grinder and a file.
  • Dry fit the strike, then seat it.

Where to find the cutout drawing

The cutout drawing is on page 6 of the HES installation instructions.

What you need

  • An HES 1006 electric strike: the fail safe (1006-F) or the fail secure version. Per our product listings, both are 12/24VDC, 630 satin stainless, ANSI/BHMA Grade 1 and fire rated.
  • The tools shown in the video: a cutting guide, a Dremel, an air grinder and a file.
  • The HES installation instructions, for the cutout drawing (page 6). Faceplate options are chosen on the product pages.
