Installation Realities

The external solenoid adds depth behind the frame, so rough-in clearance matters. In retrofit situations, verify that the solenoid orientation -- up or down -- is compatible with the frame pocket and adjacent hardware. The solenoid typically projects upward on steel frames; confirm with the frame shop if the rough-in is being cut to order.

Because of its mass and installation complexity, Folger Adam is not the first call for a routine office or school retrofit, but it is the right call when the environment would destroy a lighter-duty product within months.

Adams Rite 7100 and 7400 Series: Purpose-Built for Narrow-Stile Aluminum Doors

Adams Rite electric strikes occupy a completely different category. They are frame-mounted strikes engineered specifically for the narrow-stile aluminum and glass storefront doors that define retail entries, school vestibules, and commercial building lobbies. Conventional strikes do not fit these frames -- the stile geometry and Adams Rite deadlatch dimensions require a strike designed around that hardware family.

7100 vs. 7400 -- The Core Difference

The 7400 addresses preload directly and is available in both fail safe and fail secure. Fail safe is commonly required on egress paths by the AHJ.
