Half Surface Hinges
A half surface hinge mortises into the frame and bolts to the face of the door.
The frame
The jamb leaf sits in a mortise, the same pocket a full-mortise butt uses.
The door
The door leaf bolts through the face of the door with thru-bolts and grommet nuts. Use it when the door cannot take a mortise.
