Sargent 8267 TEG Trim Institutional Privacy Function Mortise Lockset
Chosen by specifiers who would rather over-build an opening than revisit it.
The Sargent 8200 Series is a heavy-duty mortise platform for commercial and institutional openings. Certified to and exceeds ANSI/BHMA A156.13, Series 1000, Operational Grade 1 and Security Grade 1 with all standard trims. This listing is the Institutional Privacy function (ANSI/BHMA F26) with TEG trim -- the G Gulfport lever carried on the TE Traditional Escutcheon.
Institutional Privacy Function (ANSI/BHMA F26)
How the lock behaves at the opening, stated as the catalog states it, with what each line means in practice:
- Staff Override of an Occupant-Set Privacy Turn: Key outside retracts latchbolt, overriding thumbturn when held in locked position — the occupant can set privacy from inside, and the outside key still overrides it -- which means the room can be made private without becoming a room staff cannot enter.
- Inside Thumbturn -- No Inside Cylinder: Thumbturn inside locks & unlocks outside trim — the outside lever is locked and unlocked by hand from the inside, with no key and no cylinder on that side; it does not retract the latch.
- How the Outside Trim Releases: Trim outside unlocks when the door closes or operating trim inside — either action returns the outside trim to unlocked -- closing the door, or using the inside lever to get out.
- Life-Safety Free Egress: Trim inside always retracts latchbolt — the inside lever is never locked, so a single motion always gets a person out.
- Anti-Shim Protection: Auxiliary deadlatch — a small plunger beside the latchbolt rides the strike when the door closes; with it depressed the latchbolt cannot be shimmed back with a card.
- Key Releases Only -- It Cannot Lock: Note: Key does not lock trim outside, only unlocks it — the key here is a release: it can unlock the outside trim but cannot lock it, so staff can always get in, and the door can only be secured from the inside turn.
Taken together: the key cannot lock the outside trim, and the outside trim releases both when the door closes and when the inside lever is used -- so ordinary use clears the setting, and this door does not stay locked behind anyone.
The other Institutional Privacy functions differ as follows: on the 8257 the key can lock the outside trim as well as release it; on the 8258 the key can lock the outside trim as well as release it, and the outside trim does not release when the door closes.
TEG Trim Design
TEG pairs the TE Traditional Escutcheon (2" W x 7-7/8" H (51 x 200mm), Coastal Series, oval-ended) with the G Gulfport lever (5" (127mm) long, +/- 1-15/16" (50mm) return). The carrier is an escutcheon -- a full plate covering the lock area, a different part from a rose.

Ordering & Installation
Door preparation: ANSI/SDI A250.14 modified per template 7057. Backset 2-3/4" (70mm) only. Confirm the stile before specifying: 4-1/2" (114mm) minimum stile for 7800/8200.
We list seven finishes online for this trim: 626 Satin Chrome, 630 Satin Stainless, 613 Oil Rubbed Bronze, 613E Oil Rubbed Bronze Equal, 605 Polished Brass, 612 Satin Bronze, 625 Polished Chrome. Cylinder and keyway options listed online are LC (less cylinder), LA keyway, 60 (LFIC less core), 70 (SFIC less core). Sargent catalogues more of both -- if you need a finish, cylinder or keyway that is not listed here, or a door thickness other than 1-3/4" (44mm), email sales@doorwaysplus.com and we will quote it.
Keys supplied: Two, nickel silver (control key or emergency key must be ordered when required).
This trim is handed -- specify LH, RH, LHR or RHR when ordering. Here the G Gulfport lever is a handed lever -- a left-hand lever will not work on a right-hand door, though the lockbody itself re-hands in the field; we order escutcheon trim handed regardless, so the hand is never in question when the lock reaches the job.
