The Sargent 8200 Series is a heavy-duty mortise platform for commercial and institutional openings. Certified to and exceeds ANSI/BHMA A156.13, Series 1000, Operational Grade 1 and Security Grade 1 with all standard trims. This listing is the Privacy Latchset with Deadbolt function (ANSI/BHMA F19) with FEA trim -- the A lever carried on the FE Freewheeling Escutcheon.

How the lock behaves at the opening, stated as the catalog states it, with what each line means in practice:

• Outside Lever Works Until the Deadbolt Is Thrown: Trim outside retracts latchbolt except when deadbolt is projected — the outside lever retracts the latch normally, and stops the moment the deadbolt is projected.
• Life-Safety Free Egress -- and the Outside Trim Unlocks With It: Trim inside retracts both latchbolt and deadbolt simultaneously, unlocking the outside trim — one motion of the inside lever pulls both bolts together, and that same motion also unlocks the outside lever, so the opening does not re-secure itself behind whoever left.
• Emergency Release from the Outside: Emergency Release retracts and projects deadbolt — by coin, screw driver or Emergency key (14-0057) ordered separately — from the corridor side a coin or screwdriver turns the slotted release, which withdraws the deadbolt and can throw it again, so a locked bathroom or bedroom can be opened without a cylinder anywhere on the door; Sargent's 14-0057 emergency tool does the same job and is ordered separately.
• Deadbolt Turned by Hand Inside: Thumbturn retracts and projects deadbolt — the thumbturn on the inside face throws the deadbolt and withdraws it again.

FEA Trim Design

FEA pairs the FE Freewheeling Escutcheon (forged brass outside escutcheon, vandal-resistant trim; the outside lever swings freely down to 70 degrees in the locked position and returns automatically) with the A lever (5" (127mm) long, +/- 1-15/16" (49mm) return). The carrier is an escutcheon -- a full plate covering the lock area, a different part from a rose.

Ordering & Installation

Door preparation: Free-Wheeling trim uses its own door preparation: lockbody per template 4500, trim per template 4498. It does not use the 7057 lockbody prep. Backset 2-3/4" (70mm) only. Confirm the stile before specifying: 4-1/2" (114mm) minimum stile for 7800/8200.

We list six finishes online for this trim: 626 Satin Chrome, 613 Oil Rubbed Bronze, 613E Oil Rubbed Bronze Equal, 605 Polished Brass, 612 Satin Bronze, 625 Polished Chrome. This function is non-keyed -- it takes no cylinder and no keyway. Sargent catalogues more finishes; if you need one that is not listed here, or a door thickness other than 1-3/4" (44mm), email sales@doorwaysplus.com and we will quote it.

This trim is handed -- specify LH, RH, LHR or RHR when ordering. Here the A lever is a handed lever -- a left-hand lever will not work on a right-hand door, though the lockbody itself re-hands in the field; we order escutcheon trim handed regardless, so the hand is never in question when the lock reaches the job, and Sargent lists the freewheeling trim as easily field rehanded.

Freewheeling trim is not available in the 32 or 32D finishes.
