Sargent 8265 EP Trim Mortise Privacy Latchset
Chosen by specifiers who would rather over-build an opening than revisit it.
The Sargent 8200 Series is a heavy-duty mortise platform for commercial and institutional openings. Certified to and exceeds ANSI/BHMA A156.13, Series 1000, Operational Grade 1 and Security Grade 1 with all standard trims. This listing is the Privacy Latchset function (ANSI/BHMA F22) with EP trim -- the P lever carried on the E Rose.
Privacy Latchset Function (ANSI/BHMA F22)
How the lock behaves at the opening, stated as the catalog states it, with what each line means in practice:
- Outside Lever Works Until the Thumbturn Locks It: Trim outside retracts latchbolt except when locked by thumbturn — the outside lever retracts the latchbolt normally, and stops when the thumbturn inside is turned to lock it.
- Life-Safety Free Egress -- and the Outside Trim Unlocks With It: Trim inside retracts latchbolt and unlocks outside trim — one motion of the inside lever retracts the latch and gets a person out, and that same motion releases the outside lever behind them.
- Emergency Release from the Outside: Emergency Release locks/unlocks trim outside-by coin, screwdriver or Emergency key (14-0057) ordered separately — from the corridor side a coin or screwdriver turns the slotted release, which both locks and frees the outside lever, so a locked bathroom or bedroom can be opened without a cylinder anywhere on the door; Sargent's 14-0057 emergency tool does the same job and is ordered separately.
- Privacy Set by Hand Inside: Thumbturn locks and unlocks trim outside — the person inside turns the thumbturn to lock the outside lever and turns it back to release it; there is no cylinder on either face of this lock.
- Closing the Door Releases the Privacy Lock: Closing the door will unlock outside trim — shutting the door unlocks the outside lever again, so the privacy setting is made from the inside with the door already closed.
EP Trim Design
EP pairs the E Rose (3-1/16" (78mm), square plate) with the P lever (5-1/2" (140mm) long, +/- 5/16" (8mm) return). The carrier is a rose -- a compact plate around the lever, a different part from an escutcheon.
- Carrier: E Rose, 3-1/16" (78mm) (square plate)
- Lever: P lever -- 5-1/2" (140mm) long, +/- 5/16" (8mm) return
- Handing: Non-handed; no handing designation is required when ordering.
- Accessibility: All levers meet ADA compliance for national codes. Solid forged or cast. Lever designs J, L and P have lever returns within 1/2" (13mm) or less of door face and meet California State Reference Fire Code. All lever height (+/- 1/16") measurements represent total distance from door face.
- Operation: Easy operation. Only 30 degrees of lever rotation required to retract latchbolt
