Sargent 8204 LNA Trim Storeroom or Closet Function Mortise Lockset
The Sargent 8204 LNA is a storeroom and closet function mortise lockset from the Sargent 8200 Series — a line built on more than a century of commercial hardware engineering. Carrying ANSI F07 classification, the 8204 function secures a space by keeping the outside lever locked at all times: only a key can retract the latchbolt from the corridor side, while the inside lever always allows free egress. Trim code LNA pairs a clean LN Rose (2" diameter) with the A lever, offering a low-profile, maintainable assembly suited to institutional corridors, server rooms, storage areas and any door where controlled single-direction entry is the priority. The rose format means field service is straightforward — technicians can access, inspect and replace trim components without disturbing the lock case.
8204 Storeroom / Closet Function — ANSI F07 Single-Cylinder Operation
The 8204 defines a strict access boundary: the outside is locked unconditionally, and only a key opens it. Inside, the lever is always free, satisfying life-safety egress requirements without any secondary hardware. That combination makes it the correct mechanical specification wherever a room must be secured from unauthorized entry while never trapping an occupant inside.
- Key-Only Outside Entry: The outside lever is locked at all times — it does not rotate without a valid key. There is no thumbturn, no push-button, and no hold-open mechanism on this function; once a keyholder leaves, the door is secured automatically on latching. This eliminates any scenario where the outside trim is accidentally left unlocked.
- Always-Free Inside Egress: The inside lever retracts the latchbolt unconditionally, with no credential required. Because egress is never interrupted, the 8204 is appropriate for occupied storerooms and utility closets where trapping an occupant is unacceptable, even during a power or system event — this is a fully mechanical function with no electrification.
- Stainless Steel Auxiliary Deadlatch: A stainless steel auxiliary deadlatch works alongside the primary latchbolt. The deadlatch is non-handed, meaning it installs correctly on any door orientation without substitution. Its role is to prevent the latchbolt from being depressed by shimming or carding when the door is closed — a meaningful operational safeguard for unmonitored storage rooms.
- Anti-Friction One-Piece Latchbolt: The stainless steel latchbolt delivers a 3/4" (19 mm) throw and is designed as a single anti-friction piece, so it cams smoothly against the strike under normal door-closing force without imposing extra stress on the frame or the hub mechanism. The Multi-Function 8200/7800 lockbody that carries it is configurable to nine ANSI functions from a single case, which means replacement lockbodies are a standard stocked item rather than a special-order part.
LNA Trim: LN Rose (2" dia) and A Lever
The LNA assembly keeps the door face clean and the hardware footprint compact. The LN Rose at 2" diameter covers the mortise pocket neatly without projecting far from the door surface, and the A lever provides a straightforward grip profile that holds up under the repetitive, heavy-handed use common in institutional service corridors and back-of-house storage areas.
- 30-Degree Lever Rotation: Only 30 degrees of lever rotation is required to fully retract the latchbolt. In a high-traffic storeroom environment where staff may have hands full, that reduced arc means the door opens with minimal wrist movement — a practical ergonomic advantage over mechanisms requiring deeper lever travel.
- Through-Bolted, Interchangeable Trim: Trim, including the LN rose and A lever, is through-bolted and fully interchangeable between rose and escutcheon mounting configurations. That design ensures proper alignment is maintained over the life of the installation and means a facilities team can swap trim styles in the future without replacing the lock case.
- Lever Springs Inside the Case: The lever return springs are contained inside the lock case rather than in the trim assembly. This matters at the rose: when a technician removes the LNA trim for inspection or replacement, the springs remain captured in the case and do not require resetting — reducing both service time and the risk of a misassembled return spring causing lever droop.
- ADA Lever Operation and Finish Selection: The lever design complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act; consult local authorities to confirm applicability to your specific project and jurisdiction. The LNA trim is offered in six architectural finishes: 626 Satin Chrome, 630 Satin Stainless, 613E Oil Rubbed Bronze Equal, 605 Polished Brass, 612 Satin Bronze, and 625 Polished Chrome.

Key Product Features
- 16 Million Cycle Durability — Verified: The Sargent 8200 Series completed UL cycle testing at 16 million cycles (Verification ID: V584148), exceeding the ANSI/BHMA A156.13 Grade 1 cycle requirement by 16 times. For a storeroom lock that may be keyed dozens of times per day, that margin translates directly into a longer service interval before mechanical wear becomes a concern.
- ANSI/BHMA A156.13 Series 1000 — Operational Grade 1 and Security Grade 1: The 8204 with standard trims is certified to both Operational Grade 1 and Security Grade 1 under ANSI/BHMA A156.13 Series 1000. Note that selecting the LFIC (option 60) or SFIC (option 70) cylinder configuration removes Security Grade 1 compliance, as LFIC and SFIC cylinders do not meet Security Grade 1 requirements.
- 12-Gauge Zinc-Dichromate Steel Case with Cold Forged Steel Hubs: The lock case is 12-gauge heavy-duty wrought steel, zinc dichromate plated, at 7/64" (3 mm) wall thickness. Internal hubs on the 8200 Series are cold forged steel — not the sintered iron used in the 7800 line — supported by a heavy-duty wrought steel hub assembly and high-carbon steel spring cartridge for sustained cycle performance.
- UL/cUL 3-Hour Fire Door Listed and UL 10C Positive Pressure: The 8204 is UL and cUL Listed for A-label 4×10 single and 8×10 double (3-hour fire door) and lesser class doors; the armored front is stamped with the letter F and the UL symbol to confirm listing at rough-in inspection. The lock also meets ANSI/UL 10C Positive Pressure Fire Test requirements.
- Cylinder and Keyway Options: This listing is offered in four configurations: LC – Less Cylinder (owner supplies their own); LA Keyway (standard 6-pin brass cylinder, #41 / 1-1/8", two nickel silver keys included, masterkeying and construction keying available); 60 – LFIC Less Core; and 70 – SFIC Less Core. The LFIC and SFIC options accept the owner's interchangeable core but do not meet ANSI/BHMA A156.13 Security Grade 1. LFIC and SFIC cores must be ordered separately.
- 10-Year Limited Mechanical Warranty and Field-Reversible Lock Body: Sargent backs the 8200 Series lockbody with a 10-year limited mechanical warranty (warranty limited to replacement of lockbody). The lock body is field reversible — it can be re-handed without removing parts or opening the lock case — which simplifies inventory management for facilities maintaining multiple door orientations.

Ordering & Installation Information
Door preparation follows ANSI/SDI A250.14 modified per template 7057. The 8204 LNA requires a 2-3/4" (70 mm) backset — no other backset is available on this lockbody — and a minimum 4-1/2" (114 mm) stile width; verify both dimensions before specifying on narrow-stile doors or when replacing existing hardware with a different backset. Standard door thickness is 1-3/4" (44 mm), though the 8200 Series lockbody is offered for doors from 1-3/8" to 6" when non-standard thickness is required.
The lock body is field reversible and can be re-handed without opening the case. However, A lever trim is handed — specify LH, RH, LHR or RHR at time of order, as the trim cannot be reversed in the field. Finishes available: 626, 630, 613E, 605, 612 and 625. Cylinder options: LC, LA, 60 (LFIC less core) or 70 (SFIC less core).
This item is a factory order with a 3–4 week lead time; confirm finish and handing before submitting. The broader Sargent 8200 Series also offers optional MicroShield® antimicrobial finish coating, electro-mechanical configurations with ElectroLynx® connectors, status indicator trim, push/pull ALP trim, and secure fastener options — contact DoorwaysPlus for separately specified configurations.
