Sargent 8204 CEG Trim Storeroom or Closet Function Mortise Lockset
Where architectural detail meets controlled access, the Sargent 8200 Series delivers a hardware statement that speaks before a door is ever touched. The Sargent 8204 CEG pairs the CE Contemporary Escutcheon — part of Sargent's Coastal Series — with the clean horizontal lines of the G lever, presenting a full-escutcheon trim profile that reads as considered, intentional design across a corridor, lobby or storage suite. Beneath that architectural face sits the 8204 Storeroom/Closet function (ANSI F07): outside entry by key only, inside egress always free — the precise access logic for storerooms, closets and similarly secured support spaces. Specified by architects, trusted by facility managers and built to ANSI/BHMA A156.13 Series 1000 Operational and Security Grade 1, this is a lockset engineered to perform as well as it presents.
8204 Storeroom/Closet Function — ANSI F07: Key-Only Outside Entry, Always-Free Inside Egress
The 8204 ANSI F07 function is the standard for controlled storerooms and closets: the outside trim is locked at all times and releases only by key, while the inside trim always retracts the latchbolt freely. There is no deadbolt, no thumbturn and no occupancy indicator — this is a dedicated single-cylinder storeroom function, nothing more and nothing less.
- Key-Only Outside Entry: The outside lever is locked at all times and cannot be operated without a key — turning the key retracts the latchbolt for entry. Because access is key-controlled on every approach, there is no need for a separate deadbolt; the storeroom remains secured whenever the door is closed.
- Always-Free Inside Egress: The inside trim always retracts the latchbolt, with no key or unlocking step required. This unconditional free egress is the defining characteristic of the ANSI F07 function and is essential for life-safety compliance in occupied spaces.
- Stainless Steel Auxiliary Deadlatch: The auxiliary deadlatch is stainless steel and non-handed. When the door closes fully and the deadlatch is depressed by the strike, it prevents the latchbolt from being pushed back without key operation — closing the gap between a latched door and a truly secured one.
- Anti-Friction Stainless Steel Latchbolt & Multi-Function Lockbody: The one-piece latchbolt offers a 3/4" (19mm) throw in stainless steel with an anti-friction design that reduces door-closing resistance. The lockbody is Sargent's Multi-Function 8200/7800 unit — the same case that supports nine distinct functions — so the hardware investment carries long-term facility flexibility.
CE Contemporary Escutcheon (2" x 7-7/8", beveled edge, Coastal Series) with G Lever — Full-Escutcheon Trim in a Coastal Design Language
The CE Contemporary Escutcheon belongs to Sargent's Coastal Series, a design family defined by clean geometry and a full escutcheon format that covers the lock area with a cohesive architectural plate. Paired with the G lever, the result is a trim assembly whose proportions and lines suit contemporary institutional and commercial interiors where hardware is part of the design intent, not an afterthought.
- Full Contemporary Escutcheon — Coastal Series: The CE escutcheon presents the lock area behind a continuous contemporary plate in the Coastal Series design language, unifying cylinder, lever and rose into a single architectural statement. This full-plate format is particularly effective in corridors and open office environments where hardware visibility is high.
- 30-Degree Lever Rotation: Only 30 degrees of lever rotation is required to retract the latchbolt. That reduced arc lowers the operating force needed — a practical benefit for users with limited grip strength. The lever complies with the American Disability Act; consult local authorities regarding specific project requirements.
- Through-Bolted, Interchangeable Trim: Trim is through-bolted and fully interchangeable between rose and escutcheon configurations, ensuring proper alignment and a secure mechanical connection. Lever springs are contained inside the lock case rather than in the trim itself, simplifying field installation and trim swap-outs over the life of the door.
- Handing & Finish Options: This trim is handed — specify LH, RH, LHR or RHR when ordering, as it cannot be reversed in the field. Available in five architectural finishes: 626 Satin Chrome, 630 Satin Stainless, 613E Oil Rubbed Bronze Equal, 605 Polished Brass, 612 Satin Bronze and 625 Polished Chrome.

Key Product Features
- 16 Million Cycle Durability — 16× ANSI Grade 1: The Sargent 8200 Series completed UL cycle testing at 16 million cycles (Verification ID: V584148), exceeding the ANSI/BHMA A156.13 Grade 1 cycle requirement by sixteen times. For high-traffic storeroom and closet openings, that margin translates directly into reduced maintenance and replacement costs over the building's life.
- ANSI/BHMA A156.13 Series 1000 — Operational Grade 1 & Security Grade 1: Certified to and exceeding both Operational and Security Grade 1 with standard trims. Note: the LFIC (option 60) and SFIC (option 70) cylinder configurations offered on this listing do not meet Security Grade 1 requirements — specify accordingly when Security Grade 1 is a project requirement.
- 12-Gauge Zinc-Dichromate Steel Case & Cold Forged Steel Hubs: The lock case is 12-gauge heavy-duty wrought steel, zinc-dichromate plated at .109" (3mm) wall thickness. The 8200 Series hubs are cold forged steel — not the sintered iron used in the 7800 line — backed by heavy-duty wrought steel hubs and a high-carbon steel spring cartridge for superior strength and cycle life.
- UL/cUL 3-Hour Fire Door Listing & UL 10C Positive Pressure: Listed to US and Canadian safety standards for A label 3-hour fire doors (4×10 single and 8×10 double) and lesser classifications, with the armored front stamped F and the UL symbol as field verification. Also meets ANSI/UL 10C Positive Pressure fire-test requirements — both ratings in a single lockset.
- Cylinder & Keyway Options: Four options are offered on this listing: LC (Less Cylinder) for owner-supplied cylinders; LA Keyway with a standard brass #41 (1-1/8") cylinder — the LA keyway supports masterkeying, grand masterkeying and construction keying; 60 (LFIC Less Core); and 70 (SFIC Less Core). LFIC and SFIC core configurations do not meet ANSI/BHMA A156.13 Security Grade 1. Two nickel silver keys ship with keyed cylinders.
- 10-Year Limited Mechanical Warranty & Field-Reversible Lock Body: Sargent backs the lockbody with a 10-year limited mechanical warranty (warranty limited to replacement of lockbody). The lock body is field reversible — re-handed without removing parts or opening the lock case — reducing installation time and eliminating the need to stock separate handed bodies.

Ordering & Installation Information
The 8204 CEG is a factory order with a lead time of 3–4 weeks. Door preparation follows ANSI/SDI A250.14 modified per template 7057; standard installation is for 1-3/4" (44mm) thick doors with a 2-3/4" (70mm) backset — no other backset is available, so verify door prep before specifying. A 4-1/2" (114mm) minimum stile is required to properly house the lockbody. The lock body is field reversible without opening the case; however, this trim is handed and must be specified as LH, RH, LHR or RHR at time of order. Select from six finishes: 626 Satin Chrome, 630 Satin Stainless, 613E Oil Rubbed Bronze Equal, 605 Polished Brass, 612 Satin Bronze or 625 Polished Chrome. Cylinder options are LC, LA Keyway, 60 LFIC Less Core and 70 SFIC Less Core. The broader Sargent 8200 Series also offers optional MicroShield® antimicrobial coating, status indicators, ElectroLynx® electro-mechanical functions and security trim configurations — consult the series catalog for separately specified options.
Special Note: The door handing information is needed upon order placement. If you are unsure of the handing of your door, please compare the picture above to your opening for clarification.
