The Sargent 28-10XG17 LL is a high-security Grade 1 Institutional Lock designed for maximum control in specialized environments. Often referred to as an "Asylum" or "Utility" lock (ANSI F87), this device features a double cylinder configuration where both the interior and exterior levers are rigid at all times. Access is granted strictly by key from either side. As part of the Sargent 10X Line, this lockset is engineered to withstand extreme abuse, outperforming industry standards by up to 20 times to ensure life safety and security in high-risk facilities.
Maximum Security for Sensitive Environments
The 10XG17 is built for spaces where free egress is not permitted or must be strictly keyed, such as detention centers, psychiatric wards, or high-security utility rooms. Because both levers remain fixed, the lock provides a "storeroom" level of security on both sides of the door. To defend against forced entry, it resists over 3,100 in-lb of torque and 1,600 lbs of offset pull. Its deadlocking latch design further prevents "shimming" or "loiding" of the latchbolt.
Important Safety Note: Because this function (F87) prevents free egress from the inside, it should only be used on rooms with more than one exit or in specific applications approved by your local Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ).
