PDQ MR138 HJEJ Grade 1 Institution Function Mortise Lock - Heavy Duty

PDQ MR138 function diagram

The PDQ MR138 HJEJ is an architectural-grade, Grade 1 Institution Function Mortise Lock for high-traffic commercial environments. It pairs the Houston (HJ) lever -- a solid, substantial straight lever -- on a J-Series Escutcheon in a US32D (630) Satin Stainless finish, and is engineered to exceed the rigorous standards of BHMA Series 1000. It suits institutional, correctional, and asylum openings where both levers are always rigid and the latchbolt is retracted only by key from either the inside or the outside. Its "return-to-door" design is ADA compliant and helps prevent clothing, bags, or straps from snagging on the hardware in busy corridors.

Built to withstand punishing institutional use, the MR Series uses a heavy-duty forged brass and stainless steel internal mechanism inside a deep mortise cassette -- providing significantly higher forced-entry protection than standard cylindrical locks, the industry standard for schools, hospitals, and government offices.

ANSI Function F30: Institution

The Institution function keeps both the inside and outside levers rigid at all times and retracts the latchbolt only by key from either side:

  • Key outside retracts latchbolt.
  • Key inside retracts latchbolt.
  • Rigid outside lever.
  • Rigid inside lever.
  • Auxiliary latch deadlocks latchbolt.

High-Performance Solutions for Building Security

The PDQ MR Series Mortise Lock addresses the most demanding commercial infrastructure challenges:

  • Maximum Forced Entry Resistance: The steel cassette fits deep into the door pocket, providing superior resistance against "kick-in" attacks and physical tampering versus single-point cylindrical locks.
  • Positive Deadlocking: The auxiliary deadlatch engages when the door closes, preventing "loiding" or shim attacks against the latch bolt.
  • Simplified Key Management: Provided with a Schlage C (SCC) compatible cylinder, the MR138 integrates easily into existing master key systems and supports Interchangeable Core (IC) for rapid re-keying.
  • Anti-Sag Lever Technology: The Houston lever is supported by an independent, high-tension spring cartridge that returns the handle to a level horizontal position every time.
  • Vandal-Resistant Engineering: The trim features a break-away spindle design; extreme torque or a hammer attack breaks the spindle without compromising the internal locking mechanism.
  • Architectural Integration: The Satin Stainless (US32D) base finish offers a clean, professional appearance and excellent corrosion resistance; premium finishes (605, 606, 612, 613E, 622, 629) are also available.

Finish availability: This J-Series lockset is offered in 630 (US32D Satin Stainless) as the base finish, plus premium architectural finishes 605, 606, 612, 613E, 622, 629. It is not offered in 626 (626 is an F-Series finish).
