Norton CPS7500 Institutional Surface Door Closer — CloserPlus Spring Parallel Arm
The Norton CPS7500 is a heavy-duty, institutional-grade surface door closer from Norton's 7500 Series, engineered for demanding commercial and institutional applications. Featuring a cast aluminum rack-and-pinion body with a 1-1/2 in (38 mm) piston and 5/8 in pinion journals, the CPS7500 delivers consistent, reliable closing performance on doors weighing up to 250 lb. This listing is configured with the CloserPlus Spring parallel arm — a non-hold-open arm with an integrated steel buffer spring that limits door travel to a 85–110 degree stop range — in 689, 690, or BSP. Spring sizes 1 through 6 are available, allowing fine-tuned closing force across a broad range of door sizes and weights. 689 ships in 1 Business Day; 690 and BSP are factory order, 3-4 weeks.
Institutional Grade Features & Benefits
- ANSI/BHMA A156.4 Grade 1 Certified: The highest independent performance standard for commercial door closers, making the CPS7500 suitable for high-traffic institutional environments such as schools, hospitals, government buildings, and correctional facilities.
- ADA / A117.1 Compliant Design: Engineered to comply with ADA and ANSI A117.1 accessibility requirements. Note: setting opening force to ADA-compliant low levels may prevent positive door latching — consult your project specifications.
- NorGlide Multi-Viscosity Fluid: Proprietary hydraulic fluid rated to -40°F, maintaining consistent closing speed in extreme cold — ideal for vestibule doors, cold-storage facilities, and northern climates.
- Four Independent Adjustment Valves: Separate valves for latch speed, sweep speed, backcheck intensity, and backcheck position allow precise field tuning without special tools.
- CloserPlus Spring Parallel Arm: The steel buffer spring absorbs door-swing energy and enforces a non-hold-open stop between 85 and 110 degrees, protecting the door, frame, and closer from wall impact damage without requiring a separate stop.
- 180-Degree Swing Capability: On standard arm applications (conditions permitting), the CPS7500 accommodates up to 180-degree door swing — ideal for wide-access openings. An auxiliary wall, floor, or overhead stop is recommended.
- Long-Term Warranty: Backed by a 30-year limited warranty on the closer mechanism and a lifetime warranty on the cast aluminum housing — a strong indicator of build quality and long-term cost of ownership.
- Installation-Ready Package: Includes self-drilling screws and a full-size mounting template as standard — reducing installation time in the field.
- Molded Plastic Cover: Standard cover provides a clean, professional appearance suitable for public-facing institutional interiors.
- Interior Application Only: Warranty is void if the closer is installed on the exterior (weather-exposed) side of an exterior wall. Specify an exterior-rated model for exposed applications.

Applications
The Norton CPS7500 with CloserPlus Spring arm is well suited for schools, universities, hospitals, government buildings, correctional facilities, and other high-traffic institutional openings where reliable, code-compliant door closure is required. The built-in spring stop makes it an excellent choice where wall or door damage from uncontrolled swing is a concern and a separate stop accessory is not preferred. DoorwaysPlus can also quote comparable institutional surface closers from preferred lines including Hager, Norton, Corbin Russwin, and PDQ — contact our team for project pricing and specification support.
Closer Adjustments
Use the hex wrench supplied with the closer. Never force valves out of the closer. Never completely close the backcheck valve. The door must be open to adjust spring power. Do not use a power drill -- that voids the warranty. Do not remove the valves; removal causes a fluid leak.
