Dorma DP89 Drop Plate
The Dorma DP89 is the 8900 Series drop plate for parallel-arm mounting. The 8900 brochure (printed p.29) calls it when the top door rail is less than 5-3/4 in for non-hold-open and plunger hold-open, or less than 6 in for friction (assuming a 5/8 in stop). The catalog drawing is 13 x 4-1/2 in.
This listing is the spare / replacement plate. The 8916 closer body, arm, and cover are separate. P89 is the standard parallel soffit bracket that ships with AF89P -- it is not this drop plate.
When do I need a DP89 instead of mounting the closer on the door rail?
When the top rail is below the brochure minimum. Printed p.29: less than 5-3/4 in for NHO and plunger HO, or less than 6 in for friction with a 5/8 in stop. A full-rail AF89P opening uses the door and the P89 soffit bracket -- not DP89.
DP89 vs BP89 vs P89?
DP89 = parallel-arm drop plate on a short top rail. BP89 = top-jamb backplate when the frame face is under 2-7/8 in. P89 = standard PA soffit bracket (furnished with AF89P / PHP). They are not interchangeable.
