The Dorma DP86 is the slim-cover (COV) drop plate for 8600 and 7400 surface closers. Price List 38 prints it as "Drop plate for closer with slim cover." The catalog drawing is 13 x 3-1/4 in. This page is the plate only -- the closer body, arm, and cover are separate listings.

The glossary sizes DP86 as the top-jamb drop plate when ceiling clearance is under 1-7/8 in. Factory templates also pair DP86/DP86FC with parallel-arm assemblies: 08279558 (8616 A08P) and 08280525 (7414/7436 ARP).

When do I need a DP86 instead of a BP86?

DP86 is the slim-cover drop plate (13 x 3-1/4 in) for low ceiling clearance on a top-jamb mount. BP86 is the slim-cover backplate (13 x 2-1/4 in) for top jamb when clearance is under 2-1/4 in, or regular mount to clear a mortised stop. They are not interchangeable.

Does DP86 fit a full-cover (FC) closer?

No. DP86 is the slim-cover drop plate. Price List 38 lists DP86FC as the drop plate for a closer with full cover. The glossary sizes DP86FC at 13 x 4-1/2 in and calls it a parallel-arm drop plate. Ordering DP86 on an FC listing is the wrong plate.

Does DP86 work on a 7400 Contur closer?

Yes. The 7400 plates note says the BP86/DP86 family is also used on 7400. The 7400-only drop plate is DP74 (9-3/4 x 3-1/2 in) for top jamb when ceiling clearance is at least 1-3/4 in.

Use this plate on hollow metal, aluminum, and wood doors that already specify a Dorma 8616 or 7414/7436 with the slim cover. Ball-bearing hinges or pivots remain the typical hanging hardware. Track plates (BP86T / BP86TFC / BP86FTFC) and the 7600-to-8600 conversion plate (BP86C) are different parts and are not this listing.
