Dorma BP89 Backplate
The Dorma BP89 is the 8900 Series backplate for top-jamb mounting. The 8900 brochure (printed p.29) calls it when the frame face is less than 2-7/8 in. Two sets of mounting holes give 1-3/4 in or 3-1/4 in minimum ceiling clearance. The catalog drawing is 13 x 3-1/4 in.
The upper hole set is the top-jamb drop that clears a surface-applied stop or holder. The same plate can back a regular-mount closer to clear a mortised stop or holder. This listing is the plate only.
When do I need a BP89 on top jamb?
When the frame face is under 2-7/8 in (brochure p.29). The closer screws to the plate; the plate screws to the frame. A full-face frame uses the closer on the frame -- not this plate.
BP89 vs DP89?
BP89 = top-jamb / regular backplate on a narrow frame face. DP89 = parallel-arm drop plate on a short top rail. Order the plate that matches the mount.
