Dorma prints two jobs for this plate: top jamb when ceiling clearance is under 2-1/4 in, and regular (pull-side) mount to clear a mortised stop or holder. Factory template 08279553 is the 8616 A08 regular-arm sheet that includes BP86/BP86FC. Template 08279963 is the 7414/7436 ARNP regular-arm sheet that includes BP74/BP86/BP86FC.
Does BP86 fit a full-cover (FC) closer?
No. BP86 is the slim-cover backplate. Full-cover bodies use BP86FC (13 x 3-1/4 in). Ordering BP86 on an FC listing leaves the cover overhanging the plate.
When do I use BP86 instead of a DP86?
BP86 is the slim-cover backplate (13 x 2-1/4 in). DP86 is the slim-cover drop plate (13 x 3-1/4 in) for top jamb when ceiling clearance is under 1-7/8 in. Factory templates also pair DP86/DP86FC with parallel-arm assemblies. They are not interchangeable.
