The Dorma 8916 is the 8900 Series Grade 1 surface-applied closer for institutional and high-traffic openings. Painted units ship with the narrow-projection full plastic cover (FC). What is the difference between an 8916 and an 8956?
Both are 8900 Series bodies with the same arm options. An 8916 is fully adjustable spring sizes 1-6 (PL38 / brochure) and is what Seclock stocks. An 8956 is adjustable 5-6 only. This page is the 8916 AF89P tri-pack.
Institutional Grade Features and Benefits
- ANSI/BHMA A156.4 Grade 1: the 8900 Series cut sheet lists Grade 1 for this surface closer.
- Adjustable backcheck: standard on the series; softens the opening if the door is thrown. The 8900 has a backcheck positioning (POS) valve that must be ON for parallel arm.
- Sweep and latch valves: two noncritical thermostatic valves hold closing speed as temperature changes. Clockwise decreases sweep/latch speed.
- Door range (as printed): brochure: interior doors to 48 in wide, exterior to 42 in wide, opening to 180 degrees. 8916 size 1 meets the 5 lbf interior opening-force limit on a properly hung door.
- Mounts: this listing mounts as regular, top jamb, and parallel arm. Maximum opening 180 degrees where the arm and reveal allow it.
- SN1 fasteners: sex nuts for a 1-3/4 in door are standard on every 8900 and included in the painted price (PL38 p.187).
Applications
The 8900 Series is specified on hollow metal, aluminum, and wood doors in commercial construction. Ball-bearing hinges or pivots are the typical hanging hardware. Drop plates and brackets (BP / DP family) are separate closer-parts listings, not included on this page.
