What Is a Double Cylinder Deadlock?

A double cylinder deadlock (also called a double-keyed deadbolt) requires a key to operate the deadbolt from either side of the door. Unlike a single cylinder deadbolt — which uses a thumbturn on the interior — both the outside and inside of this lock are operated exclusively by key. This function eliminates the risk of an intruder breaking a nearby glass panel and reaching in to turn a thumbturn. For doors with glass sidelights or vision panels, specifiers and facility managers frequently require this configuration.
