When do I use DP74 instead of DP86?
DP74 is the 7400-only drop plate (9-3/4 x 3-1/2 in) for top jamb when ceiling clearance is at least 1-3/4 in. DP86 is the slim-cover 8600/7400 drop plate (13 x 3-1/4 in) when ceiling clearance is under 1-7/8 in. They are not the same size.
Does DP74 fit an 8600 slim-cover closer?
No. Order DP86 (slim) or DP86FC (full cover / parallel-arm drop). DP74 is the 7400 plate.
What door-rail clearance does the brochure print?
7400 brochure p.18: parallel-arm install needs a minimum top door rail of 2-1/2 in for non-hold-open, 2-3/4 in for friction hold-open (assuming a 5/8 in stop).
