What does FHP mean on a Dorma 8616?
FHP is the friction hold-open tri-pack: regular, top jamb, and parallel arm for reveals to 4 in, with the PHB parallel hold-open bracket included. It is a different arm from the live AF86P non-hold-open tri-pack. Hold-open is friction, not plunger (PH / PHP).
Institutional Grade Features and Benefits
- ANSI/BHMA A156.4 Grade 1: the 8600 Series cut sheet lists Grade 1 for this surface closer.
- Adjustable backcheck: standard on the series; softens the opening if the door is thrown. The 8600 also has a backcheck positioning (POS) valve that must be ON for parallel arm.
- Sweep and latch valves: two noncritical thermostatic valves hold closing speed as temperature changes. Clockwise decreases sweep/latch speed.
- Door range (as printed): exterior and interior widths to 48 in, heights to 96 in, weights to 250 lb. Field-adjustable to the ADA 5 lbf interior opening-force limit on a properly hung door.
- Non-handed mounts: regular, top jamb, and parallel arm are non-handed. Maximum opening 180 degrees where the arm and reveal allow it.
- SNB1 fasteners: sex nuts and machine screws for a 1-3/4 in door are standard on 8616.
Applications
The 8600 Series is specified on hollow metal, aluminum, and wood doors in commercial construction. Ball-bearing hinges or pivots are the typical hanging hardware. Drop plates and brackets (BP / DP family) are separate closer-parts listings, not included on this page.
