A rated door can still fail when the top, meeting edge, or bottom is too open. Parallel-arm closers leave a top gap a head-and-jamb kit cannot reach. Pairs and vertical-rod edges leak at the meeting stile. Undercuts, worn saddles, and uneven floors fail at the bottom -- past the 3/4 inch NFPA 80 bottom limit.
9990 closes a top gap up to 1/2 inch on parallel-arm doors. GAP90-ME closes meeting-edge and pair clearance up to 3/8 inch (vertical-rod or flush-bolt edges). Bottoms: 9590 stainless to 1-1/2 inch; 9595DKB floating bottom to 1-3/8 inch on an uneven floor (the door stays on its hinges); 9245 / 9545 45-minute intumescent shoes; 9220 20-minute sweeps. Pick the kit by where the gap is and the time rating printed on that product.
