Commercial Door Shoes & Door Bottoms
U-shaped door shoes wrap the bottom of the door to seal the sill, protect the core, and keep a replaceable insert on the opening. We stock commercial shoes from Pemko, Hager, and NGP — vinyl, PemkoPrene, nylon brush, and rain-drip profiles, including UL 10C fire-listed models where the catalog rates them. Pair the shoe with a low-profile threshold so the insert seals without dragging.
Use a door shoe when the bottom edge needs weather, light, and draft control and a housing that will not kick loose. Surface sweeps fasten to one face; a shoe captivates both faces of a 1-3/4" door. Add a rain drip on exterior swings. For a concealed drop seal that only lands when the door closes, see Automatic Door Bottoms.
Why a U-Shaped Door Shoe?
- Protection. The housing shields the bottom rail from mop water, carts, and kick-out in high-traffic corridors.
- Hold. Fastened through both faces, it stays put where a single-face sweep works loose.
- Service. Vinyl, brush, and PemkoPrene inserts replace in the housing without replacing the shoe.
Rain drip and exterior doors
A rain-drip shoe sheds water off the face before it reaches the sill. Use it on out-swing entries with an exterior threshold; keep the drip clear of the sweep so it does not hold the door off the insert.
Fire listings and ADA clearance
Select a fire-rated shoe when the opening is labeled — Hager and Pemko UL 10C door shoes for standard commercial doors, NGP GapGuard when the leaf needs a 45-minute rated bottom. ADA access still depends on the threshold height and a seal that does not drag. The shoe does not replace a low-profile threshold.
