Accentra VICN 8808-2FL Intruder Latchbolt Mortise Lockset – Grade 1 Security

Function Info: Latchbolt retracted by knob/lever either side unless outside knob/lever is locked by key. Either cylinder locks or unlocks outside knob/lever. Latchbolt can be retracted by key when outside knob/lever is locked. Operating inside knob/lever retracts latchbolt, but outside knob/lever remains locked. Deadlocking latchbolt.
The Accentra VICN 8808-2FL (formerly Yale 8800 Series) is a heavy-duty Intruder Latchbolt Lock Function mortise lockset built for commercial and institutional openings. It is certified to ANSI/BHMA A156.13 Series 1000, Grade 1 -- the highest operational and security grade the standard defines -- and carries the Virginia (VICN) lever on the Camden escutcheon.
Built for openings that are opened and closed thousands of times a year, it uses a wrought steel, zinc dichromate plated case, 3/8" solid steel (heat treated) hubs and a 3/4" throw stainless steel anti-friction latchbolt. Available in fourteen architectural finishes, it is field reversible and ships with the door prep and installation drawings for the trim shown.
Function Details: Intruder Latchbolt Lock (ANSI/BHMA F32)
- Outside Lever Works Until It Is Locked: Latchbolt retracted by knob/lever either side unless outside knob/lever is locked by key — the outside lever retracts the latchbolt normally, and stops the moment the lock is set against it.
- Either Cylinder Locks the Outside Lever: Either cylinder locks or unlocks outside knob/lever — a key in either cylinder -- the one inside the room or the one in the corridor -- locks or unlocks the OUTSIDE lever, so the room can be secured from within without opening the door; the inside lever is never locked.
- Key Entry While the Outside Stays Locked: Latchbolt can be retracted by key when outside knob/lever is locked — with the outside lever locked, the key withdraws the latchbolt for that one entry and leaves the outside lever locked behind it, so the room does not have to be unlocked to let someone in.
- Free Egress, Outside Unaffected: Operating inside knob/lever retracts latchbolt, but outside knob/lever remains locked — anyone inside leaves by turning the inside lever in a single motion, and doing so does not unlock the outside lever behind them.
- Anti-Shim Protection: Deadlocking latchbolt — a small plunger beside the latchbolt rides the strike when the door closes; with it depressed the latchbolt cannot be shimmed back with a card.
Key Performance Features
- ANSI/BHMA Grade 1 Certified: Independently tested to the highest operational and security grade the standard defines, for long service life in demanding commercial and institutional openings.
- 3-Hour Fire Rating: UL and cUL listed for use on fire-rated door assemblies, so the opening stays code compliant.
- Accessible Operation: The lever is operable without tight grasping, pinching or wrist twisting, which is what ADA 404.2.7 requires of an accessible opening.
- Field Reversible: Furnished right hand and re-handed in the field, so one lock suits either door swing without a return.
- Anti-Friction Latchbolt: A stainless steel one-piece latch that closes quietly and resists the drag that wears a latch out on a high-traffic door.
- Heavy-Duty Hubs: Heat-treated solid steel through the point that takes every turn of the lever, which is where a lighter lock fails first.
- Mechanical Warranty: Backed for the long term against defects in the mechanical lock.
