Anti-panic operation. Operating inside knob/lever automatically retracts latchbolt and deadbolt with outside knob/lever remaining locked. Deadlocking latchbolt. Master key system must be 7-pin. The Accentra AUSL SL8827FL (formerly Yale SL8800 Series) is the heavy-duty security version of the 8800 Hotel/Motel Lock Function mortise lockset, built for openings where heavy abuse or vandalism is a concern. It is certified to ANSI/BHMA A156.13 Series 1000, Operational Grade 1, and the SL8800 with its security escutcheon also meets Security Grade 1. It carries the Augusta (AUSL) lever on the SL security escutcheon.
Built for openings that are opened and closed thousands of times a year, it uses a wrought steel, zinc dichromate plated case, 3/8" solid steel (heat treated) hubs and a 3/4" throw stainless steel anti-friction latchbolt. Supplied in 630 Satin Stainless Steel, it is field reversible and ships with the door prep and installation drawings for the trim shown.
The SL security escutcheon is what sets this lock apart: heavy duty escutcheon trim that is flat against the door to resist damage and vandalism; lever attached directly to escutcheon for added security; thrubolted security head screws offer added protection. The SL8800 is furnished in 630 Satin Stainless Steel only; levers are Nickel Plated to match Stainless Steel.
Function Details: Hotel/Motel Lock
- The Stopwork Locks the Outside Lever: Latchbolt retracted by knob/lever either side, except when outside knob/lever is independently locked by stopwork activator or automatically locked when the deadbolt is projected — the stopwork is set independently of anything else on the lock, so the outside lever can be held rigid without disturbing how the rest of the function is set.
- Keys Reach the Latch Only With the Deadbolt Withdrawn: Latchbolt retracted by master keys and change keys only when deadbolt is NOT projected — with the deadbolt thrown, neither a change key nor a master key will open the door.
- Deadbolt on a Restricted Key Outside, Thumbturn Inside: Deadbolt operated by emergency/shut-out or display key outside and thumbturn inside — an ordinary guest key will not move this deadbolt -- only the emergency, shut-out or display key does, while the occupant uses the thumbturn.
- What the Red Padlock Means: When deadbolt is projected, the indicator shows red with a locked padlock icon (indicating room is occupied). Access from outside can be gained only with an emergency/shut-out or display key. — red with the padlock closed tells anyone outside that the room is in use, and at that point only the emergency, shut-out or display key will get them in.
- Life-Safety Free Egress -- and the Outside Stays Locked: Anti-panic operation. Operating inside knob/lever automatically retracts latchbolt and deadbolt with outside knob/lever remaining locked. — the inside lever is never locked, so a single motion always gets a person out -- and on this function that same motion withdraws the deadbolt along with the latch, while the outside lever remains locked behind whoever left.
- Anti-Shim Protection: Deadlocking latchbolt — a small plunger beside the latchbolt rides the strike when the door closes; with it depressed the latchbolt cannot be shimmed back with a card.
- Requires a 7-Pin Master Key System: Master key system must be 7-pin — the keying schedule has to be built on seven pins for this function, so it is planned into the system rather than added to a six-pin one later.
- Standard-Line Trim Note: Function only available with CO, R6, R7, R8 roses or CN escutcheon — printed for the 8800FL rose and CN escutcheon trim. The SL8800 security escutcheon version (SL8827FL) is listed in the catalog trim table and priced on price book p.70 with the hotel indicator included.
- Indicator Fitted as Standard: Note: CIND indicator provided standard. V series indicators must be specified by option code. Indicator shows deadbolt position only. — the cylinder indicator comes with the lock; a V-series indicator is a different part and must be named by its option code on the order. Either way it reports the deadbolt, not the lever.
Key Performance Features
- ANSI/BHMA Grade 1 Certified: Independently tested to the highest operational and security grade the standard defines, for long service life in demanding commercial and institutional openings.
- 3-Hour Fire Rating: UL and cUL listed for use on fire-rated door assemblies, so the opening stays code compliant.
- Accessible Operation: The lever is operable without tight grasping, pinching or wrist twisting, which is what ADA 404.2.7 requires of an accessible opening.
- Field Reversible: Furnished right hand and re-handed in the field, so one lock suits either door swing without a return.
- Anti-Friction Latchbolt: A stainless steel one-piece latch that closes quietly and resists the drag that wears a latch out on a high-traffic door.
- Heavy-Duty Hubs: Heat-treated solid steel through the point that takes every turn of the lever, which is where a lighter lock fails first.
- Mechanical Warranty: Backed for the long term against defects in the mechanical lock.
