Accentra ARSL SL8867FL Dormitory Or Exit Mortise Lockset – Grade 1 Security

Function Info: Latchbolt retracted by knob/lever either side, except when outside knob/lever is locked by stopwork activator or automatically locked when deadbolt is projected. Deadbolt operated by key outside, thumbturn inside. When outside knob/lever is locked, operating key outside retracts both latchbolt and deadbolt. Anti-panic operation. Operating inside knob/lever retracts the latchbolt and deadbolt simultaneously, with outside knob/lever remaining locked. Note: Indicator shows deadbolt position only.
The Accentra ARSL SL8867FL (formerly Yale SL8800 Series) is the heavy-duty security version of the 8800 Dormitory Or Exit Lock Function mortise lockset, built for openings where heavy abuse or vandalism is a concern. It is certified to ANSI/BHMA A156.13 Series 1000, Operational Grade 1, and the SL8800 with its security escutcheon also meets Security Grade 1. It carries the Arcadia (ARSL) lever on the SL security escutcheon.
Built for openings that are opened and closed thousands of times a year, it uses a wrought steel, zinc dichromate plated case, 3/8" solid steel (heat treated) hubs and a 3/4" throw stainless steel anti-friction latchbolt. Supplied in 630 Satin Stainless Steel, the Arcadia lever is handed -- give the hand when ordering -- and it ships with the door prep and installation drawings for the trim shown.
The SL security escutcheon is what sets this lock apart: heavy duty escutcheon trim that is flat against the door to resist damage and vandalism; lever attached directly to escutcheon for added security; thrubolted security head screws offer added protection. The SL8800 is furnished in 630 Satin Stainless Steel only; levers are Nickel Plated to match Stainless Steel.
Function Details: Dormitory Or Exit Lock (ANSI/BHMA F12)
- The Stopwork Locks the Outside Lever: Latchbolt retracted by knob/lever either side, except when outside knob/lever is locked by stopwork activator or automatically locked when deadbolt is projected — the levers work the latch from both faces until the stopwork is set; the stopwork is a control inside the lock case that holds the outside lever rigid, so it no longer turns and no longer works the latch.
- Deadbolt, Keyed Outside and Turned Inside: Deadbolt operated by key outside, thumbturn inside — the deadbolt can be thrown or withdrawn from outside with the key and from inside by hand, so the opening can be secured from whichever side the person is on.
- Key Clears Both Bolts: When outside knob/lever is locked, operating key outside retracts both latchbolt and deadbolt — the key retracts the latchbolt and the deadbolt, and the outside lever remains locked after it does.
- Life-Safety Free Egress -- and the Outside Stays Locked: Anti-panic operation. Operating inside knob/lever retracts the latchbolt and deadbolt simultaneously, with outside knob/lever remaining locked. — the inside lever is never locked, so a single motion always gets a person out -- and on this function that same motion withdraws the deadbolt along with the latch, while the outside lever remains locked behind whoever left.
- What the Indicator Reports: Note: Indicator shows deadbolt position only — where the indicator option is specified on this function, it reports the position of the deadbolt and nothing else.
Key Performance Features
- ANSI/BHMA Grade 1 Certified: Independently tested to the highest operational and security grade the standard defines, for long service life in demanding commercial and institutional openings.
- 3-Hour Fire Rating: UL and cUL listed for use on fire-rated door assemblies, so the opening stays code compliant.
- Accessible Operation: The lever is operable without tight grasping, pinching or wrist twisting, which is what ADA 404.2.7 requires of an accessible opening.
- Handed Lever -- Specify the Hand: This lever design is made to a hand, so give the hand on the order; the lock body itself is field reversible.
- Anti-Friction Latchbolt: A stainless steel one-piece latch that closes quietly and resists the drag that wears a latch out on a high-traffic door.
- Heavy-Duty Hubs: Heat-treated solid steel through the point that takes every turn of the lever, which is where a lighter lock fails first.
- Mechanical Warranty: Backed for the long term against defects in the mechanical lock.
