  • A retail back door or school exterior exit needs to stay secured against public entry while still meeting egress requirements inside
  • A healthcare facility requires staff to key in through a secondary exit without installing full card access

Night-latch function is sometimes called outside locked, always free inside -- a useful shorthand when reading a hardware schedule or explaining the function to an owner.
