Magnetic Lock & Automatic Door Operator Application

Ensure maximum holding force and high-end aesthetics with our Magnetic Lock Door Operator Applications. This configuration is the ideal solution for glass "all-glass" entrances and high-security interior openings that lack traditional latching hardware. By integrating a high-performance magnetic lock with an automatic operator, you achieve a sophisticated, touchless entry system that maintains a rigorous security profile while meeting all NFPA 101 life-safety requirements.

System Operation:

The operation of a Maglock-equipped door requires a "power-to-lock" logic, meaning the system must intentionally drop power to allow the door to move.

  • Doors with magnetic locks in the normally closed and locked position.
  • Manually depressing interior or exterior pushbutton will deactivate the magnetic lock.
  • Operators will remain inactive for a predetermined time.
  • Upon expiration of the time delay, the door operator will activate.
  • Magnetic lock will relock upon closing of the door.
  • System must be interfaced (integrated) with the fire alarm system in the building.

Operations Summary

The operation of a Maglock-equipped door requires a "power-to-lock" logic, meaning the system must intentionally drop power to allow the door to move.

  • Request for Access: A user triggers the system via a PIR motion sensor, wave-to-open actuator, or access control credential. Standard Building Code requires 2 of those 3 options, in the event one fails. Verify with local building inspectors to verify.
  • Power Interruption: The control system or power supply immediately cuts power to the electromagnetic lock, neutralizing the holding force.
  • Confirmation Delay: A specialized delay-on-release relay (typically 200–400ms) ensures the residual magnetism has dissipated completely.
  • Operator Cycle: Once the door is free, the automatic operator initiates the opening swing.
  • Dwell & Closing: The door remains open for the programmed duration. Once the door closes and is fully seated against the frame, power is restored to the magnet.
  • Life Safety Integration: Because magnetic locks are "Fail-Safe" by nature, they are tied directly to the building's fire alarm system. If the alarm is triggered, power is cut, and the door becomes a free-swinging manual exit.
