Sargent 743-4 ETL Outside Trim, Freewheeling Lever

This is intended for:

- Narrow Stile (8400 Series) and Wide Stile (8600 Series) Concealed Vertical Rod Exit Devices
The Sargent 743-4 ETL is a premier Grade 1 freewheeling lever trim specifically engineered for use with Sargent 80 Series Concealed Vertical Rod (CVR) exit devices. Designed for both Narrow Stile (8400 Series) and Wide Stile (8600 Series) doors, this trim features a Classroom Function where the key locks or unlocks the lever. The "Freewheeling" design is a critical security feature: when the door is locked, the lever rotates freely without engaging the latch, protecting the internal mechanisms from vandalism and excessive force.
Advanced Security for Concealed Vertical Rods
The 743-4 ETL trim is distinguished by its -4 suffix, indicating the offset mounting tabs (top and bottom) required for precise integration with Sargent’s concealed rod systems.
- Freewheeling Vandal Resistance: The lever handle is designed to bypass the locking mechanism when secured. This prevents intruders from using a pipe or heavy tool to "force" the lever and snap the internal spindle.
- Specialized Device Compatibility: This trim is the dedicated solution for AD/MD8400 and AD/WD/MD8600 series concealed vertical rod devices.
- Classroom Function (ANSI 08): Offers maximum flexibility for facilities. The key can be used to leave the trim unlocked for high-traffic passage or locked to restrict access to keyholders only.
- Heavy-Duty Construction: Built to ANSI/BHMA Grade 1 standards, the ETL escutcheon and lever assembly are capable of withstanding over 1000 inch-pounds of torque.

Why Specify the 743-4 ETL Trim?
For architects and facility managers working with concealed vertical rod systems, the Sargent 743-4 ETL provides a seamless architectural look with industrial-strength protection. The concealed vertical rod setup (CVR) is often chosen for its clean aesthetic and the fact that there are no surface rods to be tampered with. Matching that with a freewheeling lever ensures that the exterior of the opening is just as secure as the interior.
Ideal Applications:
- Educational Facilities: Preventing student tampering with hallway or classroom exit doors.
- Hospitals & Healthcare: Providing ADA-compliant, easy-access levers that can be locked down instantly.
- Corporate Offices: High-end aesthetics for wide-stile aluminum or hollow metal doors.
- Government & High-Security: Certified Grade 1 durability for heavy-use perimeter doors.
