The Function 37 Classroom configuration operates as follows: the outside lever retracts the latch freely unless locked by key from the outside. When locked, the outside lever is rigid and cannot retract the latch. The inside lever always retracts the latch freely, ensuring unrestricted egress from the room at all times. An auxiliary deadlatch is included to prevent latch manipulation. This is the standard classroom security function widely specified for K–12 schools and higher-education facilities — the outside is secured by a key while occupants can always exit freely from the inside.

Note: The standard Classroom (Function 37) locks and unlocks the outside lever from the inside corridor by key. If outside-corridor lockdown capability is required (i.e., locking the door from the hallway during an intruder event), a Classroom Intruder / Function 38 configuration should be specified instead.
