PDQ MR157 LJEW Wide Escutcheon Grade 1 Intruder Deadbolt with Deadlatch Function Mortise Lock - Heavy Duty
The PDQ MR157 LJEW is an architectural-grade, Grade 1 Intruder Deadbolt with Deadlatch Function Mortise Lock for high-traffic commercial environments. It pairs the Los Angeles (LJ) lever -- a straight, angular lever with a beveled end -- on a J-Series Wide Escutcheon in a US32D (630) Satin Stainless finish, and is engineered to exceed the rigorous standards of BHMA Series 1000. It suits classroom-intruder and lockdown openings where a key from either side throws a deadbolt that also locks the latchbolt and outside lever, while the inside lever always allows single-motion egress. Its "return-to-door" design is ADA compliant and helps prevent clothing, bags, or straps from snagging on the hardware in busy corridors.
Built to withstand punishing institutional use, the MR Series uses a heavy-duty forged brass and stainless steel internal mechanism and a 1-inch throw investment cast stainless steel deadbolt inside a deep mortise cassette -- providing significantly higher forced-entry protection than standard cylindrical locks, the industry standard for schools, hospitals, and government offices.
ANSI Function F34: Intruder Deadbolt with Deadlatch
The Intruder function throws a deadbolt by key from either side that locks the latchbolt and outside lever, while the inside lever simultaneously retracts latch and deadbolt for egress:
- Latchbolt operated by lever from either side.
- Key outside extends/retracts deadbolt.
- Key inside extends/retracts deadbolt.
- Extending deadbolt locks latchbolt and outside lever.
- Inside lever simultaneously retracts latchbolt and deadbolt.
- Auxiliary latch deadlocks latchbolt.
EW Wide Escutcheon Trim
This is the EW wide-escutcheon version. The PDQ MR Series price list (effective March 3, 2025, page 13, "J Series Rose and Escutcheon Lock Adjustment") lists the J-Trim escutcheon in two widths:
- EJ -- Standard Width Escutcheon: 1-3/4" W x 7-5/8" H.
- EW -- Wide Width Escutcheon: 2-9/16" W x 8" H.
EW is listed as a lock adjustment -- an addition to the EJ list price -- so the lock body, function, latch and cylinder prep are unchanged; only the escutcheon plate is wider. PDQ publishes a single escutcheon door-prep template, W53503 Escutcheon Lever and Ball Knob Trim (MR114, 128, 137, 138, 157, 158, 159, 186, 200), which is not width-specific -- the EW uses the same door preparation as the EJ.
