PDQ MR128 KJEW Wide Escutcheon Grade 1 Institution with Deadbolt Function Mortise Lock - Heavy Duty
The PDQ MR128 KJEW is an architectural-grade, Grade 1 Institution with Deadbolt Function Mortise Lock for high-traffic commercial environments. It pairs the Ball Knob (KJ) knob -- a rounded ball knob -- on a J-Series Wide Escutcheon in a US32D (630) Satin Stainless finish, and is engineered to exceed the rigorous standards of BHMA Series 1000. It suits institutional and correctional openings that must be locked and unlocked by key from both sides, with a deadbolt also thrown by key from either side.
Built to withstand punishing institutional use, the MR Series uses a heavy-duty forged brass and stainless steel internal mechanism and a 1-inch throw investment cast stainless steel deadbolt inside a deep mortise cassette -- providing significantly higher forced-entry protection than standard cylindrical locks, the industry standard for schools, hospitals, and government offices.
Function: Institution with Deadbolt
The Institution with Deadbolt function keeps both levers rigid, operates the latchbolt by key from either side, and adds a deadbolt thrown by key from either side:

EW Wide Escutcheon Trim
This is the EW wide-escutcheon version. The PDQ MR Series price list (effective March 3, 2025, page 13, "J Series Rose and Escutcheon Lock Adjustment") lists the J-Trim escutcheon in two widths:
- EJ -- Standard Width Escutcheon: 1-3/4" W x 7-5/8" H.
- EW -- Wide Width Escutcheon: 2-9/16" W x 8" H.
EW is listed as a lock adjustment -- an addition to the EJ list price -- so the lock body, function, latch and cylinder prep are unchanged; only the escutcheon plate is wider. PDQ publishes a single escutcheon door-prep template, W53503 Escutcheon Lever and Ball Knob Trim (MR114, 128, 137, 138, 157, 158, 159, 186, 200), which is not width-specific -- the EW uses the same door preparation as the EJ.

Finish availability: This J-Series lockset is offered in 630 (US32D Satin Stainless) as the base finish, plus premium architectural finishes 605, 606, 612, 613E, 622, 629. It is not offered in 626 (626 is an F-Series finish).
*Ball knobs are not ADA compliant. The KJ ball knob does not meet ADA/ICC A117.1 operable-hardware requirements (no tight grasping/pinching/twisting). For ADA-governed openings, specify a lever trim.
