PDQ 6W08 PHL Heavy-Duty Classroom Exit Device Trim - Key Toggles Lock/ Unlock

The PDQ 6W08 PHL is an institutional-grade, extra heavy-duty Grade 1 lever trim designed for the most demanding wide-stile commercial door applications. Featuring the modern, return-to-door Philadelphia (PHL) lever design, this trim provides a high-security exterior interface for PDQ 6000 Series exit devices. It is the premier hardware solution for K-12 schools, university campuses, and municipal buildings where the balance of high-occupancy safety and controlled exterior access is mandatory.

Engineered to solve the common issues associated with heavy-use commercial openings, the 6W08 features a wide 3" x 9" escutcheon plate. This oversized footprint is a perfect retrofit solution, as it effectively covers a standard 2-1/8" (161) cylindrical lock prep, allowing facility managers to upgrade to a panic bar system without the need for unsightly cover plates or expensive door replacements. The heavy-duty through-bolt mounting ensures the trim is physically anchored to the exit device chassis, preventing the lever from loosening or sagging over years of rigorous operation.

ANSI Function 08: Classroom Security and Versatility

The ANSI 08 Function is specifically designed for environments that require flexible access control. It allows authorized personnel to toggle the exterior side of the door between a secure and accessible state.

  • Key-Controlled Locking: The exterior Philadelphia lever can be locked or unlocked by a physical key. In the "locked" position, the door remains securely latched from the outside, requiring a key for every entry.
  • Passage Toggle: When the key is used to unlock the lever, the door functions as a "passage" handle, allowing free entry for students, staff, or the general public during business hours without a key.
  • Positive Self-Latching: Regardless of the locking state of the lever, the device will always self-latch when the door closes. This ensures the door remains a closed fire and smoke barrier at all times.
  • Emergency Egress: The exterior locking mechanism never affects the interior exit device. Occupants always have a "single-motion" path to exit the building, ensuring 100% compliance with life-safety and fire codes.

Engineered Solutions for Institutional Environments

The PDQ 6W Series is built to solve the most frequent hardware failures in busy facilities:

  • Eliminate Lever Sag: Lever drooping is a common failure in high-traffic schools. The 6W08 utilizes an independent, heavy-duty spring cage that supports the Philadelphia lever, ensuring it stays perfectly horizontal even after 1,000,000+ cycles.
  • Vandal-Resistant Security: The heavy-duty cast escutcheon and solid zinc lever are designed to withstand high-impact abuse and prying. Through-bolting the trim creates a high-strength "sandwich" effect on the door, making it nearly impossible to remove from the exterior.
  • ADA & Accessibility Compliance: The PHL lever’s return-to-door design meets all ADA and ICC/ANSI A117.1 requirements. Its ergonomic shape is easily operated by individuals with limited hand strength and prevents clothing from catching on the hardware.
  • Seamless Keying Integration: Provided with the industry-standard Schlage C keyway, this trim can be easily re-keyed to match your existing facility master key system, simplifying access management for security personnel.
  • Corrosion Resistance: Available in professional architectural finishes like 626 Satin Chrome and 630 Satin Stainless Steel, providing a clean look and protection against harsh cleaning chemicals and weather.
