PDQ 4200V Commercial Surface Vertical Rod Exit Device for Non Rated 36" Wide Doors
The PDQ 4200V is a high-performance Surface Vertical Rod (SVR) Exit Device engineered to provide two-point latching security for standard 3-foot commercial door openings. Designed for medium-duty applications, this SVR device is the ideal solution for schools, hospitals, and office buildings that require a balance of institutional durability and cost-efficiency. By latching at both the top of the frame and the floor, the 4200V significantly increases the structural integrity of the door during a forced entry attempt compared to standard rim devices.
Built for versatility and ease of maintenance, the 4200V Series features a cadmium-plated steel chassis and a heavy-gauge steel or stainless steel rail. Its non-handed design allows for seamless installation on both left- and right-handed doors, making it a reliable "problem-solver" for contractors and facility managers looking to standardize their life-safety hardware.
ANSI/BHMA Function: Surface Vertical Rod Panic Hardware
The PDQ 4200V operates as a two-point locking system, providing enhanced perimeter security while maintaining a code-compliant path of egress.
- Top and Bottom Latching: The device features a top Pullman latch with a 5/8" throw that deadlocks into the frame and a bottom Pullman latch that engages the floor strike. This "two-point" contact prevents the door from being "peeled" or pried away from the frame.
- Emergency Egress: In an emergency, pressing the touch pad instantly retracts both the top and bottom rods, allowing for immediate exit. The bottom rod is held in a retracted position during the door swing to prevent floor dragging and hardware damage.
- Hex Key Dogging: Standard on non-fire-rated devices, the manual dogging feature allows you to lock the touch bar in the retracted position using a hex key. This converts the door into a "push/pull" entrance for high-traffic business hours, extending the life of the internal springs and latching components.

High-Performance Solutions for Modern Egress
The PDQ 4200V addresses the specific safety and regulatory challenges of commercial facilities:
- Life Safety Compliance: This device is UL 305 listed for Panic Hardware and meets all ADA and ICC/ANSI 117.1 requirements for accessibility. It ensures that large or heavy doors remain easy to operate with minimal force.
- Two-Point Security: Unlike rim devices that latch only at the strike, the vertical rod system secures the door at the header and the sill, providing superior protection against wind-loading and physical tampering.
- Fire-Rated Options: Available as the 4200VF, which is UL listed for Fire Exit Hardware (up to 1-1/2 hours). Note that fire-labeled devices do not include a dogging feature to ensure the door always remains positively latched.
- Antimicrobial Protection: For healthcare or educational environments, an optional antimicrobial coating can be applied to US26D and US32D finishes to inhibit the growth of bacteria and viruses on the touch bar.
- Procurement Ready: Assembled in the USA, this hardware meets the requirements of the Buy American Act, satisfying the compliance needs of federal and municipal government contracts.
